Mechanism Of Action Of Iron, Multivitamin & Mineral In Anemia

  • Iron is a critical component of the body.
  • Its primary role is to store and transport iron (as myoglobin and hemoglobin) throughout the body.
  • In an iron-deficient state, hemoglobin cannot be synthesized, with resultant microcytic anemia due to the formation of small erythrocytes
  • Thus iron supplements could be used in cases of Iron deficiency anemia
  • Multivitamins and minerals are used to provide substances that are not taken in through the diet.
  • Multivitamins and minerals are also used to treat vitamin or mineral deficiencies caused by illness, pregnancy, poor nutrition, digestive disorders, certain medications, and many other conditions.
