Mechanism Of Action Of Cold And Flu Ointment

• It contains medicated vapors that enter the nose and mouth.
• The menthol and eucalyptus oil in the formulation interact with a receptor located within sensory neurons in the nose which are also responsible for the detection of cold temperatures. This interaction causes the sensation of nasal cooling, feeling similar to breathing cold air through the nose.

Therapeutic Indications Of Vicks Vaporub 50 Gm

• Vicks VapoRub is an ointment which is used to relieve nasal catarrh (inflammation of mucous membranes in the nose and throat), congestion (a blocked nose), sore throat and coughs due to colds.
• Vicks VapoRub contains four active ingredients: Camphor, Turpentine oil, Levomenthol and Eucalyptus oil.
• Levomenthol and camphor calm a cough
• Eucalyptus oil and Levomenthol relieve nasal congestion (blocked nose)
• Eucalyptus oil relieves catarrh

Method Of Administration Of Vicks Vaporub 50 Gm

• Adults and children over 2 years: Rub Vicks VapoRub on the chest and back and repeat up to 2-4 times a day as needed
• Leave clothes loose to allow vapors to be inhaled easily.
• As Inhalation (Adults and children over 6 years):

1. Place hot (not boiling) water in a suitable bowl for inhalation
2. Melt one to two 5ml spoonfuls of Vicks VapoRub into the bowl of hot water
3. Keep sufficient distance from mixture in bowl to avoid burning of the face due to hot vapors
4. Inhale the medicated vapors for 10-15 minutes at a time
5. Children should always be supervised.

• Caution: Do not heat in the microwave or reheat this mixture.
• Vicks VapoRub is for external use only
• If symptoms persist or in case of fever, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
• Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
• If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
• If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.

• Stay hydrated: Drink lots of water to thin mucus.
• Inhale steam: Take a hot shower, or boil water and pour it into a bowl, face the bowl (stay at least 1 foot away), place a towel over the back of your head to form a tent, and inhale.
• Use a humidifier, for example, Vicks Air Humidifier, to loosen mucus
• Avoid inhaled irritants such as dust, perfumes, or pollutants. Wear face mask to reduce the exposure to the allergen

• Before you use this medicine talk to your doctor or pharmacist:
