- Acid reflux, which can include regurgitation, bitter taste, persistent dry cough, pain when lying down, and trouble swallowing
- Heartburn, which is a burning sensation in your chest or throat caused by acid reflux
- Indigestion, which is a pain in your upper gut that can feel like gas or bloating
- Peptic ulcer, which is a sore on the lining of your stomach, small intestine, or esophagus
Method Of Administration Of Tums Tablets
- For oral administration, chew thoroughly before swallowing.
- Take 1 to 2 tablets orally, up to 3-4 times per day.
- Adults including the elderly and children 12 years and over: When symptoms occur take two to four tablets after meals and at bedtime up to four times a day.
- Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
- If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

- Don't drink carbonated beverages, drink flat water instead of sparkling water.
- Stay up after eating
- Don't move too fast
- Sleep on an incline
- Lose weight
- If you smoke, quit since Nicotine may relax the lower esophageal sphincter.
- Check your medications: Some drugs including postmenopausal estrogen, tricyclic antidepressants, and anti-inflammatory painkillers can relax the sphincter, while others particularly bisphosphonates, which are taken to increase bone density, can irritate the esophagus.

- Do not take it if:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients
- You have severe stomach problems
- You have an intolerance to some sugars
- Use with caution if:
- You have heart, kidney or liver problems
- You have diabetes
- You need a laxative dose every day, or you have persistent abdominal pain, or if symptoms persist
- You are elderly or feel very weak
- You are on a controlled sodium diet
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- It may interact with the following drugs and products:
- Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin) because the risk of their side effects may be increased
- Azole antifungals (eg, ketoconazole), bisphosphonates (eg, alendronate), cation exchange
- Resins (eg, sodium polystyrene sulfonate), cephalosporins (eg, cephalexin), mycophenolate,
- Penicillamine, quinolone antibiotics (eg, ciprofloxacin), or tetracyclines (eg, doxycycline)
- Because their effectiveness may be decreased.
