Mechanism Of Action Of Chlorpheniramine & Phenylephrine

  • H1 histamine receptor antagonist; competes for H1-receptor sites in target cells in the respiratory tract, blood vessels, and gastrointestinal tract.
  • Chlorpheniramine is a sedative first generation anti-histamine
  • Phenylephrine is a decongestant used for reducing nasal congestion caused by allergies or the common cold.
  • Phenylephrine causes blood vessels in the nasal passages to shrink (vasoconstrictor).
  • Vasoconstriction reduces nasal congestion by preventing fluid from draining from blood vessels into nasal passages.

 

Therapeutic Indications Of Sine Up Syrup

  • The relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
  • used to ease allergy symptoms such as rash, itching, redness, sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes.

 

Method Of Administration Of Sine Up Syrup

  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
  • Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • Shake well before uses
  • The average doses:
  1. Children of 12 to 23 months: give 2.5 ml up to 2 times in 24 hours, if you need to.
  2. Children of 2 to 5 years: give 2.5 ml up to 6 times in 24 hours, if you need to.
  3. Children of 6 to 11 years: give 5 ml up to 6 times in 24 hours, if you need to.
  4. Children of 12 years and over, and adults: 10ml up to 6 times in 24 hours, if you need to.
  • Don't give more often than every 4 to 6 hours.
  • Do not give to children under 1 year.
  • Do not give more than the amount recommended above. If symptoms do not go away within 5 days talk to your pharmacist or doctor.
  • Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
  • If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

 

Undesirable Side Effects Of Sine Up Syrup

  • Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
  1. Drowsiness (which may make your child fall asleep)
  2. Dizziness, blurred vision, headaches, fits
  3. Dry mouth, difficulty in passing urine, sweating
  4. Skin rash
  5. Indigestion, stomach pain, loss of appetite
  6. Tremors, muscle pain or weakness, impaired movement
  7. Change in heart rate, palpitations, low blood pressure

 

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Sine Up Syrup

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
  • Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding

 

Non-Pharmacological Treatments & Advice To Reduce Allergy

  • Stay hydrated: Drink lots of water to thin mucus.
  • Inhale steam: Take a hot shower, or boil water and pour it into a bowl, face the bowl (stay at least 1 foot away), place a towel over the back of your head to form a tent, and inhale.
  • Use a humidifier, for example, Vicks Air Humidifier, to loosen mucus
  • Avoid inhaled irritants such as dust, perfumes, or pollutants. Wear face mask to reduce the exposure to the allergen
  • Sometimes smoke irritates your airways and causes inflammation that turns into bronchitis. Stopping smoking will help you to get rid of your cough.
  • Lozenges like Strepsils soothes an irritated throat

 

Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Sine Up Syrup

  • Before you use this medicine talk to your doctor or pharmacist:
  1. If you suffer of bronchial asthma
  2. If you have or have had a peptic ulcer
  3. If you suffer from hypertension or any heart diseases
  4. If you suffer from Hepatic disease
  5. If you suffer from Renal impairment
  6. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medications including over-the-counter non-prescription medicines, prescription medicines, herbal supplements, vitamins, and supplements.

 

Storage Conditions Of Sine Up Syrup

  • Don’t refrigerate
