Mechanism Of Action Of Alfacalcidol 2 Mcg/Ml Drop

  • Alfacalcidol is a vitamin D analog used for the management of hypocalcemia, secondary hyperparathyroidism, and osteodystrophy in patients with chronic renal failure, as well as some types of rickets and osteomalacia.

 

Therapeutic Indications Of One Alpha Drops

  • Changes in bone caused by kidney failure (osteodystrophy).
  • Changes to your parathyroid glands. Low levels of calcium in the blood of newborn babies (hypocalcemia).
  • Softening and deformity of the bones due to lack of calcium (rickets or osteomalacia).

 

Method Of Administration Of One Alpha Drops

  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
  • Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • The recommended dose:
  • Adults and children weighing more than 20 kilograms:
  • The usual starting dose is 1 microgram each day.
  • People usually take between 1 and 3 micrograms each day.
  • Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
  • If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

 

Undesirable Side Effects Of One Alpha Drops

  • Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
  • Weakness, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, and others.
  • Taking vitamin D for long periods of time in doses higher than 4000 IU (100 mcg) daily is possibly unsafe and may cause very high levels of calcium in the blood.
