Mechanism Of Action Of Neomycin-Polymyxine-Dexamethasone Eye Drops

• Neomycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to 30S ribosomal subunits
• Polymyxin B alters permeability of cell membranes, which in turn causes intracellular products to leak
• Dexamethasone prevents/reduces irritation & swelling by suppressing normal immune response, decreasing inflammatory mediators and reverses capillary permeability
• Therapeutic Indications Of Maxitrol 5Ml Drops
• It is used for the short-term treatment of inflammation of the eye, when it is also considered that a bacterial eye infection could develop.
• Method Of Administration Of Maxitrol 5Ml Drops
• Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
• Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• The recommended dose is 1 or 2 drops into the space between your eyelid and eye 6 times daily, or
• more frequently if required
• Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
• If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
• If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
• Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

Undesirable Side Effects Of Maxitrol 5Ml Drops

• Serious side effects are not expected with this medication.
• Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
• Eye surface inflammation
• Increased pressure in eye
• Eye irritation
• Itching or discomfort

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Maxitrol 5Ml Drops

• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
• Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding

Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Maxitrol 5Ml Drops

• Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to neomycin, polymyxin, or dexamethasone; or to aminoglycoside antibiotics (such as gentamicin, tobramycin); or to corticosteroids (such as hydrocortisone, prednisone); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients (such as preservatives like benzalkonium chloride), which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
• Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: other eye problems (such as glaucoma).
• After you apply this drug, your vision may become temporarily unstable. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires clear vision until you are sure you can perform such activities safely.
• During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
• It is not known if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding

Storage Conditions Of Maxitrol 5Ml Drops

• After opening the drops are safe for the eye for a period of 28 days. After this, using the drops can cause serious damage to the eye as bacteria may have been introduced.
• Store below 25°c
• Don’t refrigerate
• Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
• Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
