Mechanism Of Action Of Mefenamic Acid
- Mefenamic Acid is an NSAID acts as an analgesic, anti-inflammatory & antipyretic used to treat multiple diseases
- Mefenamic Acid is an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which is responsible for prostaglandin synthesis, an integral part of the pain and inflammation pathway.
Therapeutic Indications Of Mafepain 500 Mg Tablets
- Mefenamic Acid is used in patients (≥ 14 years) for:
- Management of mild to moderate pain, when therapy will not exceed one week (7 days)
- For treatment of primary dysmenorrhea (Pain during menstruation)
Method Of Administration Of Mafepain 500 Mg Tablets
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
- Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- Doses may change from patient to patient based on your age, your medical condition, and whether or not you are taking other medicines.
- Take with or right after a meal to reduce stomach upset
- For the relief of acute pain in adults and adolescents= 14 years of age, the recommended dose is 500 mg as an initial dose followed by 250 mg every 6 hours as needed, usually not to exceed one week
- For the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea, the recommended dose is 500 mg as an initial dose followed by 250 mg every 6 hours not to exceed 2 to 3 days.
- Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
- If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.
Undesirable Side Effects Of Mafepain 500 Mg Tablets
- Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
- Stomach pain, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion, wind, and loss of appetite
