Therapeutic Indications Of Gaviscon Peppermint Suspension

  • Acid reflux, which can include regurgitation, bitter taste, persistent dry cough, pain when lying down, and trouble swallowing
  • Heartburn, which is a burning sensation in your chest or throat caused by acid reflux
  • Indigestion, which is a pain in your upper gut that can feel like gas or bloating
  • Peptic ulcer, which is a sore on the lining of your stomach, small intestine, or esophagus

 

Method Of Administration Of Gaviscon Peppermint Suspension

  • Shake well before use to ensure the product is mixed properly
  • Take this medicine by mouth
  • Adults, the elderly and children aged 14 years or older: Take two to four 5ml teaspoonfuls daily
  • Take 20 minutes to 1 hour after meals and at bedtime
  • Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
  • If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

  • Diarrhea or constipation.
  • Flatulence (wind)

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

 

Non-Pharmacological Treatments & Advice To Reduce Hyperacidity

  • Eat sparingly and slowly
  • Avoid certain foods that are more likely than others to trigger reflux, including mint, fatty foods, spicy foods, tomatoes, onions, garlic, coffee, tea and chocolate
  • Don't drink carbonated beverages, drink flat water instead of sparkling water.
  • Stay up after eating
  • Don't move too fast
  • Sleep on an incline
  • Lose weight
  • If you smoke, quit since Nicotine may relax the lower esophageal sphincter.
  • Check your medications: Some drugs including postmenopausal estrogen, tricyclic antidepressants, and anti-inflammatory painkillers can relax the sphincter, while others particularly bisphosphonates, which are taken to increase bone density, can irritate the esophagus.

 

Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Gaviscon Peppermint Suspension

  • Do not take it if:
  1. You are allergic to any of the ingredients
  2. You have severe stomach problems
  3. You have an intolerance to some sugars
  • Use with caution if:
  1. You have heart, kidney or liver problems
  2. You have diabetes
  3. You need a laxative dose every day, or you have persistent abdominal pain, or if symptoms persist
  4. You are elderly or feel very weak
  5. You are on a controlled sodium diet
  6. You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • It may interact with the following drugs and products:
  1. Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin) because the risk of their side effects may be increased
  2. Azole antifungals (eg, ketoconazole), bisphosphonates (eg, alendronate), cation exchange
  3. Resins (eg, sodium polystyrene sulfonate), cephalosporins (eg, cephalexin), mycophenolate,
  4. Penicillamine, quinolone antibiotics (eg, ciprofloxacin), or tetracyclines (eg, doxycycline)
  5. Because their effectiveness may be decreased.

 

Storage Conditions Of Gaviscon Peppermint Suspension

  • Store below 25°c
  • Don’t refrigerate
  • For your safety, discard any medicine remaining 6 months after opening the bottle.
  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
