Mechanism Of Action Of Dutasteride & Tamsulosin

• Tamsulosin belongs to a group of medicines called alpha-blockers.
• Blocking alpha-1 receptors, in the lower urinary tract, leads to the relaxation of smooth muscle in both the prostate and bladder neck, resulting in the improvement in urine flow and a reduction of urinary symptoms.
• Dutasteride belongs to a group of medicines called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors
• An inhibitor that inhibits 5-alpha reductase, an intracellular enzyme that converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the prostate gland, reduces the serum DHT level which leads to treating the symptoms of an enlarged prostate
