Mechanism Of Action Of Bisacodyl 5Mg Tablets
- Bisacodyl works by stimulating enteric neurons to cause peristalsis, i.e., colonic contractions. It is also a contact laxative; it increases fluid and salt secretion.
Therapeutic Indications Of Dulcolax Tablets
- Constipation is generally described as having fewer than three bowel movements a week.
- Though occasional constipation is very common, some people experience chronic constipation that can interfere with their ability to go about their daily tasks. Chronic constipation may also cause people to strain excessively to have a bowel movement
Method Of Administration Of Dulcolax Tablets
- Adults and children over 10 years old:
- Take one or two tablets (5 to 10 mg) daily before bedtime.
- If you have not taken Bisacodyl 5mg Gastro-resistant Tablets before, start with one tablet and increase to two if necessary.
- When your bowel regularity has returned to normal, the dose can usually be stopped.
- Children aged between 4 and 10 years:
- Bisacodyl 5mg Tablets should only be given to children between the ages of 4 and 10 if recommended by a doctor.
- The usual dose for children is:
- one tablet (5 mg) daily before bedtime.
- Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
- If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.
- Do not take it for more than one week without asking your doctor

- Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
- Abdominal cramps or pain
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
- Blood in the stools
- Vomiting
- Abdominal discomfort
- Discomfort inside and around the back passage
- Dizziness
- Rare side effects (may affect less than 1 in 1000 people):
- Severe allergic reactions may cause swelling of the face or throat and difficulty in breathing or dizziness.
- If you have a severe allergic reaction, stop taking this medicine and see a doctor straight away.
- Colitis (inflammation of the large intestine which causes abdominal pain and diarrhea)
- Dehydration
- Allergic reactions which may cause a skin rash
- Fainting

- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

- Drink more water
- Eat more fiber, especially soluble, non-fermentable fiber
- Exercise more
- Eat probiotic foods or take probiotic supplements

Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Dulcolax Tablets
- Do not use Bisacodyl if:
- You are allergic to bisacodyl or any of the other ingredients in this medicine.
- You are intolerant to or cannot digest some sugars (as the tablet contains a small amount of Lactose and sucrose).
- You have severe dehydration.
- You have a bowel condition called ‘ileus’ (blockage in the intestine).
- You have a serious abdominal condition such as appendicitis.
- You have severe abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting.
- You have a blocked bowel (intestinal obstruction).
- You have inflammation of the bowel (small or large intestine).
- Do not use Bisacodyl with:
- Water tablets (diuretics)such as bendrofluazide or furosemide
- Steroid medicines such as prednisolone
- Other laxative medicines
Storage Conditions Of Dulcolax Tablets
