Mechanism of action of Ca Polystyrene Sulphonate

  • Calcium Resonium is used to treat something called 'hyperkalaemia'. This is when there is too much potassium in your blood.

Method of Administration of Calcium Resonium Powder

  • The usual dose is 15g three or four times a day.

  • Each dose should be given as a suspension in a small amount of water or, for greater palatability, in syrup (but not fruit juices which contain potassium), in the ratio of 3 to 4ml per gram of resin.

  • Administer Calcium Resonium at least 3 hours before or 3 hours after other oral medications.

  • For patients with gastroparesis, a 6 hour separation should be considered

  • Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
  • If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.
