Mechanism Of Action Of Povidone Iodine Powder
- The antimicrobial action of povidone-iodine occurs after iodine disassociates from the complex. Once in the free form, iodine rapidly penetrates microbial cell membranes and interacts with proteins, nucleotides, and fatty acids in the cytoplasm and cytoplasmic membrane.
Therapeutic Indications Of Betadine Spray
- Indicated for repeated application as an antiseptic, for a limited time, on damaged skin, such as decubitus ulcer (bedsore), ulcus cruris (leg ulcer), superficial wounds and burns, infected and superinfected dermatoses.
Method Of Administration Of Betadine Spray
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
- Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- The recommended dose:
- Use 3-4 times daily, locally in the affected area.
- Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
- If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.
Undesirable Side Effects Of Betadine Spray
- Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
- Skin irritation and sometimes swelling.

Warnings & Special Precautions while Taking Betadine Spray
- Be careful if hypersensitive to iodine or povidone
- Be careful if you have thyroid disorders (in particular nodular colloid goiter, endemic goiter, and Hashimoto's thyroiditis), as well as before and after radioactive therapy, you should tell your doctor about it.
- It should not be used prior to radioiodine scintigraphy or radioiodine treatment of thyroid carcinoma.
