Mechanism Of Action Of Acetylcysteine
- Acetylcysteine (N-acetyl cysteine) is used as a mucolytic and to treat paracetamol overdose.
- Acetylcysteine splits disulfide bonds in mucoproteins and thus lowers mucus viscosity, resulting in a larger volume of sputum thereby facilitating its clearance.
Therapeutic Indications Of ACC Long 600 Mg Tablets
- Acetylcysteine is used in the treatment of airway diseases such as bronchitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane in the airways), emphysema, mucoviscidosis (cystic fibrosis), and bronchiectasis (chronic widening of an airway passage).
- Acetylcysteine 600 mg effervescent tablets are indicated only for adults.
Method Of Administration Of ACC Long 600 Mg Tablets
- Dissolve the effervescent tablet in half a glass of water. Drink the solution immediately.
- Always use this medicine exactly as prescribed.
- The recommended dose: 1 effervescent tablet once daily.
- Patients who have difficulty coughing up phlegm (elderly and weakened patients) are advised to take the effervescent tablet in the mornings.
- Do not use this medicine for longer than 14 days without consulting a doctor.
- Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
- If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

- Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
- Shortness of breath due to muscle cramping of the airways (bronchospasms).
- Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, or breathlessness (dyspnoea).
- Impaired digestion with symptoms of fullness in the upper abdomen, gastric pain, belching, nausea, and heartburn (dyspepsia).
